"get past differing and get on with making a difference in one another's life. God made us different--not to hinder but to help."
-- From my reading today in Capture His Heart by Lysa TerKeurst.
ouch! I needed this admonishment this morning, but what an amazing way to think about our roles as husbands and wives--to make a [positive] difference in each other's lives.
If you are a wife, you need to read this book. [It is only about an inch thick, so no excuses!] It is truly changing me and how I interact with Paul. There are tons of marriage books out there, but, to me, this one is incredible. It is concise, but it is FULL of God's truth, encouragement, and ideas for practical application. God is teaching me so much about how to be fulfilled and how to be a blessing to my husband. I mess up continually, but there is freedom and joy in knowing this: I don't have to [and can't!] do it on my own...the Lord's grace is sufficient...and his Holy Spirit is ever present to help me be what He has called me to be.

It is encouraging that you are seeking the Lord's wisdom and words to better your marriage. The enemy is always trying to tear families apart and it is only through Christ and healthy communication that we can defeat satan and honor God through healthy marriages.

Thanks. Both my parents and Paul's are divorced so we've seen how Satan delights in ruining families and that makes us even more determined to work at having a great marriage. And we're learning you definitely have to work at it--it doesn't just happen.
ReplyDeleteJust realized you had a blog! Hopefully you remember me....I'm one of Diana's friends and met you a few times, but it's been FOREVER! I will have to read this book. Sounds wonderful. :) I will add you to my Blog List. Our blog is http://kevinandhope.blogspot.com/.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I remember you Hope! Glad you found us :) Hope things are going well for y'all! I'm headed to check out your blog!
ReplyDeleteHmmm. I'll have to add that one to my LIST of "wanting to read". During the trimester, that list often gets longer instead of being tackled and becoming shorter. :) Friends of mine and I just finished going through (one chapter a month) together the book: Proper Care & Feeding of Husbands. Very challenging but GREAT! Pinpoints that it's not about MY satisfaction - it's about servant hood to my hubby. Everything begins to fall into line AFTER that. I've really enjoyed it... been neat to talk through some of the topics with Mr. McGoo as well and get his opinion.
